Build stability during placement transitions and other life changes.
Develop practical strategies for using visual supports during visits, appointments, school changes, reunification activities, and placement transitions to promote emotional regulation and a greater sense of security.
Meet Dr. Meg Lietzau
Dr. Meg Lietzau is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Waseelah Consulting, where she provides training, consultation, and technical assistance focused on autism, child welfare, vulnerable populations, and equitable access to services. She is also an autism specialist affiliated with the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of Florida College of Medicine and serves as an adjunct professor at Florida Gateway College.
Dr. Lietzau has extensive experience working alongside child welfare agencies, foster families, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners to support children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Her work focuses on helping professionals and caregivers better understand the unique needs of vulnerable individuals while promoting evidence-based strategies that improve outcomes across home, school, and community environments.
In addition to her professional experience, Dr. Lietzau brings the perspective of a foster parent, providing firsthand insight into the joys, challenges, and complexities of caring for children involved in the child welfare system. This combination of professional expertise and lived experience allows her to connect with foster and adoptive families in a meaningful and practical way.
Dr. Lietzau holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Studies and has dedicated her career to improving services, supports, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. Her areas of expertise include autism, child welfare, caregiver training, victimization prevention, access to services, and supporting individuals involved in state-supported systems of care.
